Kainos Tech Incorporated is developing a differentiated technology solution for scalable production of aromatic hydrocarbons from ethane portion of shale gas.
Ethane gas is the second largest component of shale gas. At a fraction of crude-derived naphtha cost, ethane gas offers immense commercial potential. Ethane gas has been produced in large quantities in North America and Middle East regions. Unfortunately, a significant portion of the ethane gas produced is simply burned for heat or power generation (i.e., ethane rejection) and the chemical value of ethane gas is lost in the burning process.
Kainos Tech is working to develop a process technology that utilizes the chemical value of ethane gas and produces aromatic hydrocarbons. Aromatic hydrocarbons are the basic building blocks for innumerous finished chemical products (such as fabrics, polymers, solvents, rubbers and many more) used in modern life.
Kainos Tech's in-house technology development outcome includes four granted patents (reactor design, process configuration, and catalyst formulation), modeling of reactor capability, over 150 catalyst samples preparation, over 20,000 hours of lab-scale catalyst performance evaluation, and cost modeling of 500 kilotons/year commercial-scale plant.
The technology solution that Kainos Tech develops offers compelling plant economics with reduced development risks.
